Though the original source is no longer available, I still have his work saved and will still credit Larry and his site for the information it provided. Newspapers
Understanding news citations:
It’s true, I’ve made my own citation method for the newspapers. You’ll find that it can be difficult to keep track of over 400 newspapers and their varied accurate, inaccurate, and corrected information (all of which matters). Also, the typical style of citation formatting left over half of each post as being nothing but space dedicated for citation and the long titles Victorian/Edwardian people loved so very much. They citation key is listed below, indicating the abbreviation for each newspaper.
So, citations at the end of lines, pictures and quotes which read something like: (CDT 12.7.07 pg 4) indicates that this information comes from the Clarksburg Daily Telegram publication for December 7th, 1907, page 4.
(CDT 12.7.07 pg 4 extra) or (CDT 12.7.07 pg 4 noon) = Clarksburg Daily Telegram December 7, 1907 page 4 of the “extra” or “noon” publication. If you choose to use the free resources of the Library of Congress, you will find that page numbers are sometimes unclear and there may be multiple copies of the same page
- (News) – Citation indicates there are multiple papers which published this information. *Researcher’s Note: In the case of Monongah, multiple sources does not equate confirmation of events. This is simply the information which got passed around at the time, some of it was more widespread than others. This will be discussed further in an “Issues” post.

The following are papers I have found out of that collection which have useful information on the Monongah Disaster.)
